Get Your Indie Rock on at LouFest in St. Louis
I know that part of the readership of this site is more oriented towards indie rock than punk because you email me all the time asking me to cover more of it when I do music coverage. If you are among those legions and I know that our readership does reach legions then have I have a show for you.

August 28-29 St. Louis is putting itself on the indie rock festival map with the inaugural LouFest in Forest Park. It is a great eclectic line up that will be a good balance to the punk rock summer I seem to be having. The mix of local bands and national touring bands should prove to be some fun.

Here are some of the highlights I am looking forward to:

  • Bottle Rockets

A twangy good time rock band with a great sense of humor. I think they got the shaft by signing to the wrong labels at the wrong time. I have seen them a few times and it is always a good time.

  • So Many Dynamos

For only being from down the road, I haven't really heard of these guys before. After having checked out a few videos and such on the Internets, I am interested in checking out their Les Savy Fav and Dismemberment Plan keyboard driven rock.

  • Titus Andronicus

It seems like New Jersey is putting up some kind of renaissance right now. Leading the way (along with The Gaslight Anthem) is Titus Andronicus. These weird, growling, punk-leaning, civil war obsessed, indie rockers are suppose to put on a great show. I can't wait.

  • Lucero

I took logic in college, let me dazzle you with the sorta thing I learned.

Punk Rock + Good Country = Lucero.
    Therefore, Lucero = Happy Dave.

  • Broken Social Scene

This collective of Canadiens play a loose trippy sort of music that is usually not my scene. That being said, there is an exception to every rule and I kinda like them. I will be interested to see this set.

  • Carolina Chocolate Drops

I have heard very little from Carolina Chocolate Drops, but I have read good things about them in a wide variety of magazines from The Big Takeover to the No Depression website. It is a three piece African American old-timey band. They seem interesting. I know the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band was one of the high points of the Warped Tour for me, so maybe I am becoming a character from O Brother Were Art Thou?

  • Alejandro Escovedo

I was a fan of his in The Nuns, I really liked Rank and File and my kids love "Sad and Lonely" The Bottle Let Me Down

    "I turned the Big 1-0
    I feel so old
candy doesn't taste as good anymore"

What are the odds he will play it?

  • She and Him

I lose any punk rock creed I have left (like I have any!) by admitting I like every red-blooded hetero male have a slight crush on Zooey Deschanel. She could be there reading from the phonebook and I would be in.

Convinced? Great, I will see ya there.
