Heather is a smart, popular and athletic twelve year old girl when she has her first drink. Two years later, at fourteen she is kicked out of school because she is high everyday. What the hell happened?
This memoir tells a heartbreaking tale of the downward spiral that Heather Harrison took into junkiedom. It tells the story of frequent trips to rehab, sexual assault and a world where her only real friend or family is her dealer.
Reading this book you assume that everything works out for her in the end, i mean it is rare that junkies write memoirs. Yet, Heather does such a good job of telling the story from her perspective at the time that you sometimes see no way out for her. The Chapter about her first stint in rehab is called "Brainwashing" because at that moment that is what she sees the purpose of rehab to be.
Her life is a struggle that she endures and triumphs over, but there is no hollywood glamorization of her life here. Along the way there are several court appearances and tries at rehab before she gets to her redemption. You should read this book.
