An interesting take on history that you rarely see. This is a collection of over 400 years of songs about New York state. What you end up with is a history of New York like no other. Each song is presented with a couple of paragraphs describing either the subject matter of the song and then you get the lyrics and the music.
You get songs about individuals, songs about elections and wars, songs of patriotism and protest, and because it is New York, lots of songs about baseball (which always make me happy).
The audience is maybe limited for this book, which is unfortunate because I think it is suitable for historians, musicians, artist of all kinds and of course New Yorkers.
