Marisela Norte is a well known spoken word poet around Los Angeles. Her inspiration are the other women riding the bus with her.

She sits in her seat on the bus and observes the other women on the bus and in a mix of English and Spanish tells us about their lives. I mostly get the feeling that Norte observes and doesn't interact a lot with the woman she writes about. Through her observations she draws out stories that are complete. Stories of work, sex, rape, love lost and love found.

Through reading this book you get the idea that you might be able to get on that bus and if you would be able to observe and watch those around you, you might be able to pick out some of the people and the stories described in this book.
