Lou Fest 2010!

The first annual (I hope) LouFest was held in St. Louis this past weekend in beautiful Forest Park. It was a great indie rock way to end my punk rock summer. One thing that LouFest did that was better then other festivals was the great mix of local acts and national acts. Usually you only get one or the other, but you get both at this one which I thought was fantastic. The show got started with Bottle Rockets. They have a bit of a national reputation, but it was a good way to kick off the show. Other local bands like So Many Dynamos and their electronic sounds and Adam Reichmann and his roots flavored rock were great to show. The mix with national acts gave these bands exposure to a lot of people that might not have ever seen them. A note to Mr. Lou Fest, I know in the future you are going to be tempted to move more into national acts and away from the local bands mixed in, please fight this impulse. This is something you did right.

Get Your Indie Rock on at LouFest in St. Louis

Here are some of the highlights I am looking forward to:

Last week I went to the Warped Tour

There were wackos and weirdos, dingbats and dodos, athletes and movie stars, and David Allen Coe.  Okay, that isn't really true, those are actually the lyrics to a song you probably won't hear at the Warped Tour.

The Warped Tour can be overwhelming. So many bands, so many people and so many merch booths. In an earlier article I broke down my plan for the Warped Tour and the bands I wanted to see. Of course, the schedule threw this all off so the plan went out the window. This is good actually because like always I ended up seeing some great music I would have just passed by.
